Good Cop, Bad Cop?
There are reports that the police in India deliberately planted evidence on computers to implicate citizens. State overreach is a much debated topic. Will tools in the hands of nation states lead to a more totalitarian state? These are questions that require a lot of public debate. The pros and cons have to be weighed before deciding on any direction.
Meanwhile, the government of India also issued ‘confidential’ guidelines to its employees. As per this report, they promptly got leaked. :), proving that government officials too should read “Monkey Shakespeare Typewriter”.

As a cybersecurity professional, initiate a debate within your organisation and community of professionals about the pros and cons of cyber tools in the hands of nation states. It is best to write a white paper that is openly published and discussed.

Phishy copyright infringement notice
If Facebook sends you a mail saying that the content you posted has been taken down due to a copyright infringement notice, then you are more likely to believe it than not.
This phish was used on the members of the Elections Infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Center (EI-ISAC) in the US.
Election scams are on rise everywhere with newer phishing mails being developed all the time

Consider upcoming elections in your area and educate the most susceptible set of people around election scams. Build this into your CISO calendar for awareness, in sync with elections.
