WhatsApp fined for violating data privacy laws
It’s not great for Meta’s reputation.
Ireland’s data protection commission has fined WhatsApp for forcing users to accept the new privacy policy.
Regular WhatsApp users might remember that, some time ago, there was an ‘update’ to the privacy policy and it seemed that the only way to continue using WhatsApp was to accept it. [ Side note — it’s not. I have still not accepted it ]
Another issue raised, but not discussed by the commission was WhatsApp saying that they encrypt chats, but not mentioning that they have access to the metadata.
